Fire Refuge signs identify safe areas around your premises for disabled or injured occupants to go in the event of an emergency. These are areas within the building which are accessible for disabled access and where it will be easiest for fire service teams to evacuate disabled persons in the event of an emergency.
Fire Refuge signs identify these areas by using an symbols of a wheelchair with directional arrows pointing towards the refuge area and the words "Safe Area", "Fire Exit" or "Refuge Point". The Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety Law RRO), UK's "Disabled Discrimination Act (DDA) 2004" and Building Regulations, mean it is UK Fire Safety Law to provide a safe means of refuge for disabled persons in the event of a fire or emergency.
